What is an identifier?
An identifier is a personal code that authenticates an Azumuta user and lets them log in to a workspace. Operators can use it to log in, either in the app or the browser version of the app.
This article covers using an identifier to log in to the browser version of the app. For the app itself, see logging in to the Azumuta app with an identifier.
An identifier is useful when operators share devices instead of having their own.
The setup process
As an admin, you set this up in three phases.
Phase 1: add a new device
This is the device your operators will use, with Sign in with identifier enabled. You do this once per device.
- Go to Management → Devices.
- Click the yellow plus button.
- In the Name field, type the device's name.
- In the Type dropdown, select the device type (tablet, laptop, desktop, smartphone, API device, or other).
- Click Add. You can set the other options later.
Phase 2: authenticate the device
Authenticate the device you added in phase 1. You do this once per device.
- Next to the device, click Copy unique device link.
- On the operator's device, open a browser tab.
- Paste the link into the address bar, then press Enter.
- Click Sign in with identifier (needs setup).
- The screen shows a barcode scanner and a set of 6-digit numbers. You use one of them in step 8.
- On the admin's device, open the device list.
- Click Setup Sign in with identifier.
- Authenticate the operator's device in one of two ways: scan the barcode with the operator's device (needs a camera or barcode scanner), or click Approve next to the 6-digit numbers (check that the numbers match step 5). To require both the identifier code and a password at login, switch on the Ask for password when signing in with identifier toggle.
The feature is now enabled on the device. To confirm, check that needs setup is gone and replaced by a text field. Compare the two screens:
You only need phase 1 and phase 2 once per device.
Phase 3: give operators an identifier code
You do this once per operator.
- Go to Management → Users.
- Click the ⋮ (three-dot) icon next to the operator, then click Edit user.
- Type the code in the Login identifier field, then click Save.
Log in with an identifier as an operator
After setup, operators type the identifier code from phase 3 on the login screen.
If you switched on the Ask for password when signing in with identifier toggle in phase 2, operators also enter their password.
Remove the identifier login option
- Go to Management → Devices.
- Next to the device, click Copy unique device link.
- Open the link in a new browser tab.
- Click the ⋮ (three-dot) icon in the top right.
- Click Reset "Sign in with identifier", then click OK.
